In today’s digital era, information is literally at your fingertips. As a result, we are beginning to see some of the pitfalls associated with such an information overload.
The convenience and availability of the internet has made it the premier place for gaining information. There is no referencing other physical sources. This can pose a huge problem for young people who have grown up in the digital era. Many young people, who have grown up going online for information, have no idea how to find books at the library or conduct research apart from online sources.
In addition, information found online is only as reliable as the author. There is much information online that is off base or, at worst, completely inaccurate. Unless you have a discerning eye, you may fall prey to misinformation and faulty sources. Although there are many reputable online sources that have revolutionized and streamlined research for many people, there still remain online sites that should be shrewdly approached.
In our digital era, we need to approach information online with discernment and responsibility. It is only then that we will be able to avoid the pitfalls that the information online poses.
